The School of Catering and Accommodation at Shelby Technical and Vocational College was established to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the hospitality and service industry. Since its inception, the school has remained committed to providing quality training that blends practical skills with professional ethics, preparing learners for successful careers in catering, accommodation management, and related hospitality sectors.
Initially, the school began with a small department offering short courses in cookery and housekeeping. Over the years, it expanded its curriculum to include Catering and Accommodation Management, Food and Beverage Production and Service, and Front Office Operations, all developed under the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework.
The school prides itself on its well-equipped training kitchens, restaurants, laundry units, and model guest rooms, which provide learners with hands-on experience that mirrors real industry environments. Partnerships with local hotels, restaurants, and tourism establishments have strengthened industrial attachments and ensured that learners gain exposure to modern trends in hospitality.
Today, the School of Catering and Accommodation continues to produce competent, disciplined, and service-oriented graduates who meet both local and international hospitality standards. Guided by Shelby College’s vision of empowering skills and building futures, the school remains a vital pillar in promoting Kenya’s tourism and service industry through excellence in hospitality training.
